Heritage Art Materials Workshop at Cober Hill Spend four inspiring nights at Cober Hill, where woodland, fields and earth become both teacher and muse. This residential workshop invites you to slow down, explore the landscape and learn the traditional craft of making art materials by hand. Alongside like-minded people, you'll create, share ideas and leave with new skills, handmade treasures and lasting memories. Guided by artists Edward and Lucy Campbell, you'll forage and craft heritage art materials using earth, plants, clay and fire, building your own handmade artist's kit while deepening your connection to the landscape. What you'll explore Inks Create natural inks from local plants and minerals, including traditional iron gall ink, then use your handmade inks for drawing and writing. Pigments and paints Grind natural earths into pigments and turn them into paints and pastels, discovering colour sourced directly from the landscape. Clay containers Shape and pit-fire simple clay vessels using ancient techniques, creating unique pieces marked by flame and smoke. Brushes and pens Make your own creative tools from feathers, sticks and other foraged materials while exploring their long history. The experience More than a workshop, this is an opportunity to reconnect with traditional skills, nature and the creative process. Whether you're an artist, maker, historian or simply curious about the natural world, you'll leave with practical knowledge, a handmade collection of art materials and fresh inspiration. Edward and Lucy Campbell have worked as practising artists for over twenty years. They are also founders of Old Mill Arts, an arts centre in south-west Scotland dedicated to creativity, heritage and community. Practical details Workshop times: Tuesday–Thursday, 10am–4pm; Friday, 10am–12pm All workshop materials and equipment are provided, along with access to evening activities at Cober Hill.
