Join us for a relaxing and creative one-day Zentangle workshop hosted by North Yorks Art School and led by Joanne Cummings, a certified Zentangle teacher passionate about sharing this meditative art form. Perfect for beginners and those looking to deepen their practice, this workshop introduces you to the Zentangle method, an easy-to-learn, fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns based on simple shapes like I, C, S, and O. You’ll craft a detailed artwork while enjoying the calming, stress-reducing benefits of this portable craft. With a take-home kit including quality pens and paper, you’ll leave equipped to continue your Zentangle journey anywhere. Set in the vibrant, welcoming hub of Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre, this workshop offers a supportive and inspiring atmosphere for all. Zentangle, developed in 2003 by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, is a modern art form that combines repetitive patterns with mindfulness, rooted in traditional drawing practices like mandalas and illuminated manuscripts. Using simple strokes to form “tangles,” Zentangle is accessible to anyone who can draw basic shapes, requiring only a pen, paper, and focus. Celebrated for its portability and minimal materials, Zentangle promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and enhances concentration, with studies highlighting its therapeutic benefits for mental wellbeing. Under Joanne's expert guidance, you’ll master the Zentangle method, creating a detailed artwork in a step-by-step process. You’ll begin by learning the foundational strokes of I, C, S, and O using quality pens and paper from your provided take-home kit. Joanne will guide you through drawing structured patterns, or “tangles,” demonstrating techniques like shading, layering and combining patterns to build intricate designs. You’ll create a unique piece, choosing from provided templates. Saturday 5th September 2026 10am - 4pm with Joanne Cummings This workshop takes place at: Henshaws Art & Crafts Centre 50 Bond End Knaresborough HG5 9AL Includes all materials, refreshments and lunch
