350 British pounds
Cober Hill

Available spaces

This masterclass with Elisha Enfield, Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year winner 2022 offers an expanded exploration of painting fire in the landscape. Building on the structure of her popular one-day session, the course allows more time to develop ideas, refine technique, and create a resolved oil painting. The week begins with drawing and underpainting, establishing composition and tonal values. With extended time at this stage, participants will explore how light behaves, how it radiates, softens and interacts with the surrounding environment, forming the foundation for the painting. From there, attention shifts to the landscape. Through demonstrations and guided practice, Elisha will explore how colour, contrast and atmosphere can situate fire within a wider setting, whether against open ground, trees or evening light. The relationship between flame and environment becomes central, shaping both mood and meaning. This will involve some outdoor sketching and exercises. Participants will then develop the fire itself, using the fluidity and transparency of oils to build luminous, dynamic flames. Techniques of layering and removal will be introduced to create depth, movement and intensity. The final stage focuses on refinement, bringing together composition, light and atmosphere into a cohesive whole. With individual feedback throughout, participants are supported in developing their own approach and resolving a finished work. Suitable for all levels, this masterclass offers a considered space to experiment, deepen understanding and explore the challenges and rewards of bringing fire to life in paint. About Elisha Drawing from stories of fire and ritual, Elisha Enfield’s work explores the layered histories of landscape and memory. A graduate of the University of Brighton (2011), she has been selected for the BEEP Painting Biennial, John Ruskin Prize, and Jackson’s Art Prize, with work held in collections worldwide. Includes all materials and equipment needed. This masterclass will involve a mix of indoor and outdoor sessions. Workshop sessions take place 10am-4pm Tuesday - Thursday. Includes refreshments and lunch.
