Saturday 28th March 2026 - Henshaws, Knaresborough
Available spaces
Join us for a one-day Impressionist Oil Painting workshop hosted by North Yorks Art School and led by Garth Bailey, an experienced art tutor renowned for his popular oil painting workshops. This beginner-friendly session welcomes all skill levels, guiding you to create a detailed landscape painting in the Impressionist tradition, capturing the scenic beauty of Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough. The day begins with a demonstration of Impressionist techniques, followed by a morning sketching session on location and an afternoon in the studio to complete your artwork. Inspired by the vibrant coastal landscapes of North Yorkshire, this workshop offers a supportive and creative atmosphere, ensuring you leave with a stunning oil painting and the skills to continue this expressive art form. Impressionism, pioneered in the 1870s by artists like Monet and Pissarro, revolutionised art with its focus on loose brushwork, vivid colours and capturing fleeting light and atmosphere, often painted en plein air. Oil paints, used since the Renaissance, became the medium of choice for Impressionists due to their rich pigmentation and blending capabilities, ideal for landscapes and scenes of everyday life. This workshop introduces you to the vibrant techniques of Impressionism, empowering you to craft a landscape painting that captures the essence of Scarborough cliffs, gardens or sea views with dynamic brushstrokes and colour. Saturday 28th March 2026 10am - 4pm with Garth Bayley This workshop takes place at: Henshaws Art & Crafts Centre 50 Bond End Knaresborough HG5 9AL Includes all materials, refreshments and lunch
