Join us for an intensive advanced portrait painting residential at Cober Hill, set in the quiet North Yorkshire countryside just outside Scarborough. Led by Samira Addo, 2018 Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year winner, this masterclass is designed for artists ready to work at a larger scale and refine their approach under close guidance. With a deliberately limited group size, you’ll have more space to explore and more dedicated time with Samira as you develop larger paintings. Over 3.5 focused days you will work from live models and through transposition from photographs, building larger, more resolved portraits that combine observational accuracy with expressive mark-making. Samira will support you in refining technique, handling of oil paint, and the translation of a sitter’s presence onto a bigger canvas. The emphasis is on depth of working rather than introductory exercises, allowing you to push further with colour, texture and composition on a scale that rewards sustained attention. Materials included - 30in x 40in (76.2cm x 101.6cm) professional canvas, oil paints and mediums (retail value £110) are provided for the workshop. Cardboard and protective wrapping will be supplied so you can safely take your finished large works home at the end of the residential. Residential details The course includes a full-board, four-night stay in an en-suite room at Cober Hill. All workshop materials and equipment are included; you will simply need to be able to transport your completed canvases home. This is a rare opportunity to work intensively with Samira on ambitious, larger-scale portraits in a supportive and spacious setting. Workshops take place Tuesday-Thursday 10am-4pm and Friday 10am-12.30pm. Check-in: From 3pm, Monday 25th October 2027 Check-out: By 10am, Friday 29th October 2027
