Join us for a captivating journey into the world of freeform crochet at North Yorks Art School. Led by Lisa Silver this one-day workshop is designed for crocheters with experience of basic stitches e.g. chain, single crochet, double crochet, offering a vibrant introduction to the liberating art of freeform crochet. Perfect for those eager to break free from traditional patterns, this hands-on session will guide you in creating a unique piece of textured, colourful fabric, opening the door to endless possibilities like scarves, shawls, bags, or embellishments. Set in the welcoming, creative environment of North Yorks Art School, this workshop fosters a friendly and fun atmosphere, encouraging you to unleash your inner artist and let your crochet hook lead the way. Freeform crochet, a modern evolution of the ancient craft of crochet, emerged in the 1960s and 1970s as fibre artists began experimenting with unstructured, improvisational techniques, inspired by movements like abstract expressionists. Unlike traditional crochet, which relies on rigid patterns, freeform crochet is a liberating and expressive art form that celebrates spontaneity, texture, and colour, allowing you to create one-of-a-kind pieces as individual as you are. Today, freeform crochet is prized for its sustainability, using natural or recycled yarns and its ability to produce wearable art, home decor, or sculptural pieces with minimal tools, making it an accessible and eco-friendly craft. This workshop introduces you to the freedom of freeform crochet, empowering you to mix stitches, textures and yarns to create vibrant, tactile designs. Saturday 17th January 2026 10am - 4pm with Lisa Silver This workshop takes place at: North Yorks Art School 2-4 South Street Scarborough YO11 2BP Includes all materials, refreshments and lunch.
