Still Life in Acrylics Workshop
Saturday 31st January - Cober Hill, Scarborough
Available spaces
Join us for an one-day still life painting workshop at North Yorks Art School, led by Christopher Shaw, Head of NYAS and a seasoned artist dedicated to fostering creativity in beginners. This beginner-friendly session welcomes both novices and those with some painting experience, guiding you to create a vibrant acrylic still life painting, such as a composition of flowers, fruit, or other objects. You’ll learn essential acrylic techniques, from sketching and underpainting to colour mixing and detailing, using student-grade materials to bring your vision to life. Set in the vibrant, welcoming hub of Cober Hill, this workshop offers a supportive and creative atmosphere, ensuring you leave with a finished still life painting and the confidence to continue your artistic journey. Acrylic painting, developed in the mid-20th century, revolutionised art with its fast-drying, water-based formula, offering versatility unmatched by oils or watercolours. Popularised in the 1950s by artists like Andy Warhol, acrylics are prized for their vibrant colours, durability, and ability to mimic various textures, making them ideal for still life compositions. Requiring only paint, brushes and a canvas - acrylics are accessible to beginners. You’ll begin your journey into acrylic painting by creating a unique still life composition in a single day. Chris will guide you through initial sketches using charcoal to final touches using acrylics. Learn about composition, values, tones and colour and spend the day beginning to think more critically about your own individual style and application. Chris's encouraging approach, honed through his leadership at North Yorks Art School, ensures beginners feel confident while experienced painters can refine their skills.
