Join professional mosaic artist Sheila Jagger for an inspiring and comprehensive 6-week mosaic course at North Yorks Art School. This course is designed for both beginners and those with some experience who want to develop their mosaic skills in depth. Each week you will work on, or have demonstrations of different techniques to build your knowledge and confidence step-by-step. By the end of the six weeks, you will have created a wonderful collection of mosaic pieces and gained a broad understanding of varied mosaic-making processes. Sheila is a highly experienced mosaic artist and teacher with over 10 years of professional practice. She specialises in both traditional and contemporary mosaic techniques to sell her work internationally. She has created private commissions and exhibited artworks nationally. Sheila is known for her patient, encouraging teaching style and her ability to help students develop their own creative voice through mosaic. Course Structure: Week 1: Mosaic Foundations Introduction to tools, materials, and the direct method. Create a small decorative mosaic piece Week 2: Cutting & Design Skills Mastering tile cutting techniques and design principles. Make a framed mosaic panel with a simple design. Week 3: Ungrouted method. Working with natural and found products - such as sea glass, sea worn pottery and small pebbles - you will be using the ungrouted direct method to create an interesting outdoor hanging mosaic. Week 4: Crockery. Working with tile adhesive and china crockery, you will design and create a small free-standing mosaic sheep or pig. During this week you will also begin work on a larger mosaic (e.g. an outdoor bee drinker, bird bath or wall plaque). Week 5: Texture, Relief & 3D Elements Using the materials and techinques from week 3 and 4 to add depth and texture, Sheila will also demonstrate how use other materials and some unique ceramic pieces to enhance the larger mosaic you are working on. Week 6: Finishing & Personal Project Professional grouting, finishing techniques, and presentation. Complete your final personal project with tutor support. Throughout the course, Sheila will provide demonstrations, individual guidance, and helpful feedback. Booking & Cancellation Policy Payment Options You can pay in full at the time of booking via card, Google Pay, Apple Pay or PayPal, or choose to pay a 25% deposit and pay the remaining balance 45 days before the event. Cash payment can be made in person at the school, shop or venue. Deposits A 25% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place on Workshops, Courses and Residentials. This deposit is non-refundable in all circumstances. Balance Due If you pay by deposit, the remaining 75% balance must be paid no later than 45 days before the start date. We will send you a reminder email with a payment link. Cancellation Policy Courses & Workshops More than 8 weeks before start: Full refund minus £20 admin fee. 4–8 weeks before: 70% refund. 2–4 weeks before: 50% refund. Less than 2 weeks before or after start: No refund.
