Linocut Impressions Workshop
Saturday 6th March 2027 - Henshaws Knaresborough with Rebecca Mapplebeck
Available spaces
Join us for a one-day linocut printmaking workshop at North Yorks Art School, led by Rebecca Mapplebeck, a skilled printmaker passionate about the bold, graphic art of relief printing. This beginner-friendly session welcomes both novices and those with some printmaking experience, guiding you to create a striking A5-sized single-colour linocut print. You’ll learn essential linocut techniques, from designing and carving a linoleum block to hand-printing your artwork, using provided templates or your own designs. Set in the vibrant, welcoming hub of Henshaws Arts & Crafts Centre, this workshop offers a supportive and creative atmosphere, ensuring you leave with a small edition of prints and the skills to continue this accessible craft at home. Linocut printmaking, a form of relief printing developed in the early 20th century as a more accessible alternative to woodcut, gained prominence through artists like the German Expressionists and later Picasso and Matisse, who valued its bold lines and graphic impact. By carving a design into a linoleum block and inking the raised surface, artists create prints that can be reproduced on paper, fabric and cards, making linocuts versatile for fine art, handmade gifts as well as decorations. This workshop introduces you to the meditative and creative process of linocut, empowering you to craft a unique print that captures the essence of your chosen design with striking contrast. Under Rebecca's expert guidance, you’ll master the essentials of linocut printmaking, creating a single-colour A5 print in a relaxed, hands-on session. You’ll begin by exploring the linocut process, learning to use professional carving tools safely and select images suitable for bold, high-contrast designs. Rebecca will demonstrate how to transfer a design onto a linoleum block, guiding you to carve with precision to create positive and negative spaces, using provided templates or your own design. You’ll then ink your block and using our print press create a small edition of prints. Rebecca's supportive teaching style ensures beginners feel confident, while those with experience can refine their techniques. Saturday 6th March 2027 10am - 4pm with Rebecca Mapplebeck This workshop takes place at: Henshaws Arts & Crafts Centre 50 Bond End Knaresborough HG5 9AL This workshop includes all materials, refreshments and lunch.
