Table Loom Weaving Workshop
Saturday 26th October 2026 - Henshaws, Knaresborough
Join us for a creative one-day table loom weaving workshop at Henshaws, led by Agnis Smallwood, a skilled weaver passionate about sharing the art of creating textiles by hand. This beginner-friendly session welcomes all skill levels, guiding you to weave a unique scarf or snood. You’ll explore a variety of weaving techniques and structures, such as plain weave, twill, or textured patterns, while choosing from an array of yarns in vibrant colours and textures to craft a personalised textile piece inspired by North Yorkshire’s landscapes or your own creativity. Weaving, one of humanity’s oldest crafts, dates back to 7000 BC, with evidence of looms in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia creating textiles for clothing, sails and art. Table looms, developed in the Middle Ages, made weaving more accessible, allowing intricate patterns through multiple shafts. Today, weaving is valued for its versatility, producing wearable accessories, home decor, or fine art. The 8-shaft table loom enables complex weave structures, making it ideal for beginners to explore creative possibilities with minimal setup. This workshop introduces you to the rhythmic art of weaving, empowering you to craft a functional and beautiful scarf or snood that blends tradition with personal expression. Each participant will have their own pre-threaded 8-shaft table loom, allowing you to focus on the weaving process without the need for setup. Agnis will lead group demonstrations, introducing techniques like plain weave, twill, or herringbone, and guide you in selecting yarns, wool, cotton, or specialty fibres in a range of colours and textures to create dynamic patterns. You’ll learn to operate the loom, manage tension, and incorporate weave structures to add texture and depth, choosing from provided design ideas. Saturday 26th October 2026 10am - 4pm with Agnis Smallwood This workshop takes place at: Henshaws Art & Crafts Centre 50 Bond End Knaresborough HG5 9AL All materials needed for the workshop are provided.
