Join acclaimed watercolour artist Paul Talbot-Greeves for a specialist workshop exploring the beautiful interplay of transparency and opacity in watercolour painting at the stunning Cober Hill mansion house. Paul Talbot-Greeves is a highly respected watercolourist known for his elegant, luminous, and technically accomplished paintings. His work combines traditional precision with a wonderful sensitivity to light and atmosphere. He has a masterful understanding of watercolour as a medium and is particularly skilled at using transparency and opacity to create depth, luminosity, and richness in his paintings. This focused week will dive deep into one of the most important, yet often overlooked aspects of watercolour painting. You will learn how to harness the unique properties of transparent and opaque pigments to achieve greater control, vibrancy, and atmospheric quality in your work. What you will explore: - Understanding transparent, semi-transparent, and opaque watercolours - Layering techniques to build depth and luminosity - Using opacity strategically for highlights, texture, and structure - Creating glowing effects through glazing and overlaying - Mixing and applying both transparent and opaque pigments effectively - Controlling edges, softening passages, and adding definition - Developing rich, atmospheric paintings with greater confidence Through clear demonstrations and guided practical exercises, Paul will help you understand how to use transparency and opacity creatively, whether painting landscapes, architecture, still life, or floral subjects.
