Join us for a friendly and supportive two-day beginner’s drawing course, designed to introduce you to the essential fundamentals of drawing and help you build confidence from the very beginning. This relaxed workshop is perfect for complete beginners or those returning to drawing after a break. Over the two days, you will learn core skills step-by-step through clear demonstrations, practical exercises, and plenty of individual guidance from your tutor. Day 1: Foundations - Introduction to materials and drawing tools - Understanding line, shape, and basic form - Contour drawing and observational exercises - Introduction to light and shadow - Shading techniques (hatching, cross-hatching, blending) - Drawing simple 3D forms (spheres, cubes, cylinders) with volume and depth - Short still life exercises to apply what you’ve learned Day 2: Perspective, Proportion & Creative Application - Understanding proportion and basic perspective (one-point perspective) - Measuring techniques and looking at the relationships between objects - Working on a more developed still life composition - Introduction to portrait drawing basics – facial proportions and features By the end of the two days, you will have completed several drawings, gained a solid understanding of key drawing principles, and built the confidence to continue developing your skills at home. Workshop Details: - Suitable for complete beginners - All drawing materials, paper, and sketchbooks provided - Refreshments and lunch included both days This two-day course offers the perfect balance of structure and practice, giving you a strong foundation in drawing in a supportive and encouraging environment. Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th February 2027 10am - 4pm with Annie Quicke This class takes place at: Cober Hill Cloughton Scarborough North Yorkshire YO13 0AR The workshop runs from 10am to 4pm. Please arrive at Cober Hill between 9.30am and 9.45am for refreshments before heading to the studio for a prompt 10am start. Includes all materials, refreshments and Lunch. Turn this workshop into a three-night stay at Cober Hill’s historic mansion house. The residential package costs an additional £405 per person. Check-in from 3pm Friday 26th February check-out by 10.30am Monday 1st March. Please select the accommodation option on the booking form. 


Cancellation Policy

Booking & Cancellation Policy Payment Options You can pay in full at the time of booking via card, Google Pay, Apple Pay or PayPal, or choose to pay a 25% deposit and pay the remaining balance 45 days before the event. Cash payment can be made in person at the school, shop or venue. Deposits A 25% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place on Workshops, Courses and Residentials. This deposit is non-refundable in all circumstances. Balance Due If you pay by deposit, the remaining 75% balance must be paid no later than 45 days before the start date. We will send you a reminder email with a payment link. Cancellation Policy Courses & Workshops More than 8 weeks before start: Full refund minus £20 admin fee. 4–8 weeks before: 70% refund. 2–4 weeks before: 50% refund. Less than 2 weeks before or after start: No refund.
