Architectural Watercolour Workshop
Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th September 2026 - Cober Hill, Scarborough. Weekend Break Option Available
Join us for this inspiring two-day Architectural Watercolour Painting and Sketching course at North Yorks Art School, led by Elena Stogneva a professional artist and illustrator based in Hertfordshire with a background in architecture. Elena specialises in urban landscapes and architectural subjects. Her architectural training gives her a strong understanding of perspective, geometry, and composition, while her love of watercolour allows her to capture the play of light and shadow with spontaneity, transparency, and atmosphere. She regularly exhibits her work, teaches watercolour workshops across the UK, and has had paintings selected for prestigious exhibitions including the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. This course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience who want to develop their skills in sketching and painting buildings, street scenes, and architectural details. Over the two days you will explore techniques for capturing the character and mood of architecture using watercolour, ink, and drawing materials. The course will combine studio demonstrations with plenty of hands-on practice. You will learn essential skills such as accurate yet loose perspective drawing, building form and depth, mixing harmonious colours, creating interesting textures, and using light and shadow to bring your subjects to life. There will be guided outdoor sketching sessions (weather permitting) around the historic grounds of Cober Hill followed by studio time to develop your sketches into finished watercolour paintings. In a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, Elena will provide individual guidance and encouragement, helping you to loosen up your style while maintaining structural accuracy. Whether you are drawn to elegant Georgian buildings, dramatic architecture, or intimate street scenes, you will leave with a deeper understanding of architectural watercolour and one or more finished pieces that capture the essence and atmosphere of the location. You can also turn this two-day workshop into a three-night stay at Cober Hill’s historic mansion house. The residential package will cost an additional £375 per person with check-in from 3pm Friday 25th September and check-out by 10.30am Monday 28th September. Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th September 2026 10am - 4pm with Elena Stogneva This class takes place at: Cober Hill Cloughton Scarborough North Yorkshire YO13 0AR Includes all materials, refreshments and Lunch.
