Papercutting, an art form dating back to 6th-century China, where it was known as jianzhi, has flourished across cultures. Using simple tools like scissors or knives, artisans have long crafted paper into intricate designs for decorations, storytelling, and celebrations, valued for its accessibility and striking visual impact. Modern papercutting, revitalised by artists using precision scalpels, is celebrated for its versatility, creating everything from framed art to greeting cards and its eco-friendly nature, requiring only paper and minimal tools. This workshop introduces you to the tactile precision of papercutting, empowering you to transform a single sheet into a layered, expressive artwork, suitable for personal projects or professional displays, while fostering creativity and focus. Children over 12 may attend with a paying adult, and those over 14 are welcome unaccompanied, making this a family-friendly opportunity to explore papercutting. By the end of the day, you’ll have a framed paper-cut artwork, ready for display, and the knowledge to continue this intricate craft at home.
