Join Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year winner 2019 Fujiko Rose for this four-night residential at Cober Hill. This residential is built around the idea of making portraits out of landscapes. Instead of grand panoramic views, you’ll learn to capture quiet, intimate moments in nature. The delicate structure of a single wildflower, the character of an ancient tree, clusters of leaves caught in dappled light, or a small corner of moorland that feels like a secret. By the end of the week you will leave with a personal collection of ink drawings that feel like portraits of the places and plants you love. What you will learn and take home - Master ink as a medium: gain complete confidence working with dip pens, brushes and fine-liners. No erasing, just bold expressive mark-making. - Understand form, tone and texture using traditional ink techniques viewed through a fresh, contemporary lens. - Draw convincing botanical studies and intimate landscapes that feel alive and personal. - Compose strong, balanced arrangements in nature, learning what to leave out as much as what to include. - Create quick field sketches and translate them into resolved, larger studio pieces. - Develop your own visual voice by adding individual flair and experimentation to classic methods. - Build a coherent body of work from rapid 5-minute compositional thumbnails to ambitious final pieces on high-quality paper. The week is deliberately relaxed and supportive. We work at a pace that lets confidence grow naturally with the medium. You’ll receive plenty of one-to-one guidance, demonstrations and constructive feedback. All abilities are welcome. Complete beginners to ink are especially encouraged, as the course is designed to take you from your very first ink line to finished pieces. By the end of the residential you will understand how to “read” the landscape with an artist’s eye, confidently handle ink in a range of traditional and contemporary ways and have a beautiful portfolio of botanical arrangements, intimate landscapes and personal ink studies to take home - plus the skills to keep exploring this rewarding medium long after the residential ends. Includes all materials and equipment needed. This residential will involve a mix of indoor and outdoor sessions. Check-in from 3pm Monday 12th July 2027 Check-out by 10.30pm Friday 16th July 2027 Workshop sessions take place 10am-4pm Tuesday - Thursday
